We create services that deliver a genuine "wealth experience". Services that offer your end customers a first-class experience and with which you can convince them long-term.
The origin.
The founders Prof. Dr. Rüdiger von Nitzsch, Erich Borsch and Christian Friedrich met in the mid-90s at the Chair of General Business Administration at RWTH Aachen University. At that time, Christian Friedrich and Erich Borsch were assisting Prof. Dr. Rüdiger von Nitzsch and planning their Ph.D. in "Behavioral Finance," which studies the decision-making behaviour of investors in the capital market. Their particular interest centred on "ambiguity aversion," which describes decision-making behaviour under uncertainty.
With the beginning of the stock market boom and the founding of the first direct banks in the late 90s, the idea for aixigo emerged as the stock market began to open up to novice investors. In this transitional phase, the idea was born: "We make investors". The founders aimed to educate new investors about capital markets and their opportunities and risks with the help of technology. Based on the assumption "the more investors know about a product, the more willing they are to buy", they intended to overcome ambiguity aversion. This ultimately gave rise to the name "aixigo" – from "exigo" (Greek for "explain") and "aix" from "Aix la Chapelle" (French for Aachen).
In 1999, aixigo was founded as a spin-off of RWTH Aachen University. The first offering included online academies and a stock market coach. Initial customers such as Comdirect, Cortal Consors, DAB Bank and Postbank Easytrade were attracted, and aixigo soon became the market leader in e-learning tools for private investors. Simultaneously, the three founders met Tobias Haustein, pursuing a Ph.D. in computer science, at the Founders' College of RWTH Aachen. Due to his expertise, he ideally complemented the management team in May 2000.
New directions in the wake of the stock market crash.
With the stock market crash that followed 9/11, the demand for direct banks dropped. aixigo responded with a strategic realignment of its offering. Henceforth, the focus was set on advisory solutions that facilitate advisers' work and optimise advice processes through standardisation and automatic regulatory compliance. It quickly became apparent that this idea met the market need, allowing new customers such as Targobank or Commerzbank to be convinced. As early as 2005, aixigo also identified the potential of digitised wealth management and came up with solutions for efficient portfolio management. The growing success accompanied considerable personnel growth and a relocation to the present location in Aachen-Laurensberg.
In subsequent years, aixigo responded to challenging industry changes by continuously extending its offering internationally. The broad offering eventually resulted in aixigo's Wealth Management Platform, which offers more than 100 digital services. The completely API-based platform stands out through flexibility, mass suitability and unparalleled speed, permitting easy integration into existing services and infrastructures. It empowers financial institutions globally to offer innovative and unique financial services to their customers. Even though aixigo's solutions are constantly expanding, one thing remains constant – the impact of behavioural finance. We build solutions that make banking understandable and eliminate ambiguity aversion. This is how we pursue our ultimate goal – a service experience for advisers and customers!
A new era begins.
Nowadays, aixigo is located in Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom and maintains an international customer portfolio. In early 2021, co-founder Erich Borsch resigned from the management board to join the supervisory board, succeeding Prof. Dr. Rüdiger von Nitzsch as chairman of the supervisory board.
In December 2021, experienced FinTech entrepreneur and executive Arnaud Picut joined aixigo as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). With more than 20 years of experience in the financial technology industry, Picut is ideally suited to strengthen aixigo's position in Europe and Asia. Prior to this, he was co-founder and managing director of Almonde (now part of Finastra) and held long-time senior leadership roles internationally at FERNBACH and, more recently, at Finastra, one of the largest FinTech companies in the world.
